Men's Basketball Rally Falls Short at Bridgeport, 72-68

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (January 17, 2014) – The Men's Basketball team fell on the road to the University of Bridgeport this evening, 72-68, in East Coast Conference action.

The Redhawks, who trailed by 19 points late in the first half, rallied to make this interesting down the stretch. After trailing 39-25 at the break, the visitors rallied to tie the game with Isaac Medeiros hit a jump shot to make the score 66-66 with 1:51 remaining.

However, the Purple Knights responded by scoring six of the last eight points of the game to seal the win.
Roberts Wesleyan edged the Purple Knights in shooting with a 46.0% field goal percentage compared to Bridgeport's 42.9%. The Redhawks also had the rebounding advantage of 38 to 32.

On the night, Medeiros scored a game-high 24 points after hitting 10 of 19 from the field to go along with 13 rebounds. The forward also had two blocks and two assists.

Senior forward Patrick Downer also earned the double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Redhawks, despite going 1 of 4 from the floor. Downer was nearly perfect at the line, hitting 9 of 12 from the charity stripe.

Tyrel Dixon scored five points in addition to a game-high five assists.

The loss drops Roberts Wesleyan to 3-4 in conference play and 7-6 overall.

The team is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Dowling College on Long Island with tip-off set for 4pm.
