Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. (January 28, 2014) – The Men's Basketball team fell to Daemen College this evening, 98-82, in East Coast Conference action.

The visiting Redhawks fell behind quickly when Daemen when on the 19-6 run over six minutes to take a commanding 22-9 lead at the 13:03 mark in the first half. The Wildcats never looked back as they earned the season sweep over their Thruway rivals.

Leading Roberts Wesleyan on offense was sophomore forward Tyrel Dixon. The swingman finished the night with 21 points, the most since scoring a season-best 24 point on the road against NYIT on Dec. 14.

Dixon was 8 of 13 from the field for the Redhawks as he improved his season scoring average to 11.2 points per game.
Fellow forward Patrick Downer also had a productive night as he chipped in 17 points after going 3 of 4 from long range and 4 of 6 at the free-throw line.

As a team, Roberts Welseyan shot well from outside, finishing the game with a 52.6% three-point field goal percentage. William Bromirksi and Jamaal Carter each went 2 of 2 from beyond the arc. Bromirski added a total of 14 points as Carter netted a season-high 16 points.

Carter's 16 points was the first time the freshman scored in double digits as his previous high was 8 points against the University of the District of Columbia on Jan. 10.

For Daemen, both Kadeem Johnson and Casey Sheehan scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Wildcats.

The loss drops Roberts Wesleyan to 8-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

The Redhawks are back in action this Saturday when they host New York Institute of Technology at 4pm. The game is a part of the annual Alumni Day and Athletic  Hall of Fame activities.
