ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan is set to make history Friday evening as they visit Bridgeport in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Volleyball Championships.
Since being granted NCAA Division II active member status this past summer, the program is the first from Roberts Wesleyan to earn a spot in an ECC postseason tournament.
The Redhawks, who are the fourth seed, will look to earn the upset against the hosts and top-seeded Purple Knights.
In their two regular season meetings, Roberts Wesleyan forced both matches into extra sets against a team that went 16-0 in conference play. At home, the two teams played into a fourth set with the final scores 25-23, 20-25, 14-25, 23-25.
After trailing 2-0, Roberts Wesleyan rallied to force a fifth set before falling 19-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 9-15. At the time, it was the first time any team made Bridgeport play into a deciding fifth set. To date, only third seed LIU Post and Roberts Wesleyan have managed to do so.
For Roberts Wesleyan, senior middle blocker
Jordan Wilson has been highly efficient this season as she leads the ECC with her .376 hitting percentage. She currently ranks second on the team with 295 kills, right behind freshman outside hitter
Courtney Taylor.
Taylor, who has been named the ECC Rookie of the Week four times, leads the Redhawks with her 306 kills while averaging 3.06 kills per set.
The winner of the match will take on the winner of the Dowling/LIU Post semifinal on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
