ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2014) – The Men's Soccer team finished the regular season on a high note by defeating No. 20 NYIT, 3-0, this afternoon which was Senior Day.
The game saw the Redhawks being out-shot 17 to 7, but it was the Redhawks who took advantage of their opportunities.
The first goal came from
Ben Porpilia in the 15
th minute. The senior found himself in open space , made a move to beat the Bears' goalkeeper, and then sent his shot from four yards out to the back of the net.
Classmate
Michael Cunningham then got his 10
th goal of the season when he converted a penalty kick opportunity in the 26
th minute. On the season, the forward is 2 for 2 from the penalty spot.
Malcolm Shaw closed out the scoring in the 50
th minute by scoring off of a free kick from
Alex Harling. Shaw found the ball on the left side of goal and blasted the shot home for his third goal of the season.
Goalkeeper
Michael Scavone was called on to make nine saves in the game, earning his fifth clean sheet on the year.
For NYIT, the loss was their first conference setback of the season and just their second loss overall.
Roberts Wesleyan evened their conference record to 5-5-0 while improving to 10-6-2 overall. The team will now wait to see who they play in the NCCAA East Region tournament later this month.
