Men’s Soccer Wins NCCAA East Region Title

The win advances Roberts Wesleyan to the NCCAA Championships

Rochester, N.Y. (November 22, 2014) – The Men's Soccer team defeated Houghton,2-0, this evening in the NCCAA East Region final.
The win means Roberts Wesleyan will play in the upcoming NCCAA Championships in Kissimmee, Fla.

Roberts Wesleyan scored their first goal with just about a minute left in the first half when the Redhawks were awarded a free kick near the corner; Scott Carson took advantage of the set play and headed the ball in off of Michael Cunningham's cross. The assist was Cunningham's ninth of the season.  The game was extremely physical as stakes were high, both the Redhawks and the Highlanders saw their share of fouls.

The Second half saw more fouls as both teams adjusted to the quick pace of play in the rain. The Highlanders held the Redhawks to a 1-0 lead for almost the entire half.  Goalie Michael Scavone was credited with the shutout making one save.

When the Highlanders had a free kick their goalie Jacob Dunnett came out to help with the play hoping to push the game to overtime.  Senior Stephen Stewart won the ball after
the free kick before beating the goalie and dribbled the ball into the net securing Roberts Wesleyan's East Region victory.

The win improves Roberts Wesleyan's record to 11-6-2 going into the NCCAA National Championships.
