Rochester, N.Y. (December 12, 2014) - The women's basketball team dropped to Queens College 60-70 this evening in their first conference showdown.
While Queens Started with a quick lead, the Redhawks were able to tie up the score twice in the first few minutes of play but fell behind soon after. Queens took the lead for the rest of the game. Roberts Wesleyan kept it close in the first half, never allowing Queens to lead more than eight. The first half ended 25 - 31.
Samantha Courtney was key to keeping the Redhawks in the game. She was four of nine from the field and lead the Redhawks with 14 points. Courtney also managed two assists, a block and four rebounds. Senior
Marissa Sell went a perfect five of five from the line and added 13 points for the Redhawks. She also posted eight rebounds.
Defensively
Carneisha Henry had two blocks and six rebounds.
Ashley Cianfriglia had two steals and also added nine points.
Ultimately Queens College had more efficient shooting than the Redhawks. Roberts Wesleyan scored half their points from within the paint but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just two of their 25 chances. The Redhawks were 69.2% from the line and 32.8% from the field.
The loss drops the Redhawks to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Roberts Wesleyan hosts another ECC rival, Molloy College, tomorrow Saturday December 13th at 2pm.
