WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 19, 2014) – Despite leading by two points at halftime, the Women's Basketball team was unable to pick up a road win at the District of Columbia in East Coast Conference action this evening.
The Redhawks led by 10 points with 4:05 left in the first half, but it was District of Columbia who mounted a comeback in the second half to earn their ninth win of the season.
The visitors shot the ball well as they finished the game with a 54.2% field goal percentage, 50% from three-point range, and 66.7% from the charity stripe.
However, the stat of the game was District of Columbia scoring 39 points off of the Redhawks' season-high 29 turnovers.
For the Redhawks, senior forward
Marissa Sell notched her sixth double-double of the season with a 16 point, 10 rebound performance. Sell finished the night just four assists shy of a triple-double.
Samantha Courtney also earned the double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while
Lakiah Huff tallied 10 points for Roberts Wesleyan.
Freshman
Lucy Covley continued her strong start to the season with a team-high 17 points after finishing 6 of 10 from the field that included a remarkable 5 of 9 from long range.
The Firebirds were led by Denikka Brooks, who poured in a game-high 25 points after going 10 of 18 from the field and 5 of 7 at the line.
With the loss, the Redhawks slip to 1-2 in the ECC and 5-3 overall.
The team will look to bounce back into the win column when they wrap-up non-conference play on Monday, Jan. 5 as they host Post (Conn.) in a 7:00 p.m. game.
