ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 5, 2015) – The Women's Basketball team started the new year with a 66-51 home win over non-conference foes, Post, this evening.
Roberts Wesleyan, who earned their sixth win of the season, led for nearly the entire game as they led by as much as 18 points in the second half.
The visiting Eagles were competitive in the first half as they managed to chip away at an 11 point deficit to take the lead by one point with four minutes remaining in the first stanza.
However, that would be the only lead the visitors had as Roberts Wesleyan pulled away in the second half.
Leading the Redhawks was senior
Marissa Sell, who tallied 14 points and 14 rebounds. The forward also led the team with six assists and two blocked shots.
Three other players scored in double-digits as
Samantha Courtney notched 11 points as
Brooke Fields and
Ashley Smith each scored 10 points in the winning effort.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 45% from the field while holding Post to a paltry 27.7%.
The win puts the Redhawks at 6-3 overall as Post slips to 3-11 on the year.
Roberts Wesleyan is back in action this weekend as they continue their home stand on Friday when they host Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference match-up at 6:00 p.m.
