Men's Basketball Shocks Dowling, 76-68

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 22, 2014) – The Men's Basketball team earned their biggest win of the season, defeating the East Region's fifth-ranked Dowling College, 76-68.
 
The Golden Lions, who came into the weekend sitting in first place in the ECC standings, dropped their regular season title game at Daemen on Friday evening.
 
For Roberts Wesleyan, the win marks their second victory in the last three outings.
 
After going into the locker room leading 32-28, Roberts Wesleyan used a remarkable 17-3 run over the first five minutes of the second half to pull away from the Golden Lions.
 
During the second half, the Redhawks gave the Senior Day crowd a show, which included a thrilling alley oop when William Bromirski sent in the pass to Kevin Madiamba on a fast-break play with 11 minutes left in the game.
 
Sophomore forward Tyrel Dixon dominated play by posting a game-high 23 points after going 8 of 13 from the field and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free-throw line. Dixon also had the double-double with 14 rebounds as well as picking up four assists.
 
Senior guard Herb Alexander added 14 points for the Redhawks while junior forward Isaac Medeiros added 12 points.
 
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot just 39.7% from the field, but were a solid 76.5% at the free-throw line.
 
The win puts the Redhawks at 11-13 overall and 7-11 in the ECC as they prepare to close out the season on the road at Mercy College on Feb. 28 and St. Thomas Aquinas College on Mar. 2.
