ERIE, Pa. (March 11, 2014) – The Men's Tennis won on the road, defeating Mercyhurst University, 8-1, in non-conference action this afternoon.
Charles Farres and
Sam Thorold were double winners for Roberts Wesleyan as they teamed up at first doubles, defeating the Lakers' Travis Beck and Mauricio Canton Diaz, 9-7. Farres then won at second singles, downing Robert Rizea 6-3, 6-3. Thorold also dispatched Daniel Gimenez 6-1, 6-4.
In other doubles action,
Beka Buchukuri and
Julio Toledo edged Rizea and Gimenez, 8-6 while
Robert Beer and
Emanuel Rauchle got by Eric Dursko and Ross Molinaro, 8-5.
At first singles, Buchukuri battled Beck in a close match before falling narrowly 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2).
Toledo picked up the win at fourth singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 against Dursko while Beer won 7-6 (6), 6-1 over Molinaro at fifth singles.
Rounding out the singles action,
Emanuel Rauchle defeated Mike Vinopal 6-1, 6-0.
The win puts Roberts Wesleyan at 6-3 overall as they extend their winning streak to two matches after dropping a pair earlier in the month.
Up next for the Redhawks is a trip to Edinboro (Pa.) State this Friday at 11am.
