Men's Basketball Falls to Southern Nazarene in NCCAA 3rd Place Game

WINONA LAKE, Ind. (March 22, 2014) – The Men's Basketball team dropped an 88-67 decision to Southern Nazarene (Olka.) University in the NCCAA National Championships 3rd Place Game this afternoon.

The Crimson Storm led for most of the game after taking the lead at the 11:39 mark in the first half when Dartanyon Meggs hit a jumper to make the score 14-13.

Roberts Wesleyan, the six-seed, was unable to take the lead once more when it was 17-17 when Isaac Medeiros made two of his 19 points. The junior forward went 7 of 13 from the field while making two steals.

Senior swingman Patrick Downer ended the day with 14 points as he hit 2 of 3 from beyond the arc and 6 of 9 overall. He also added two assists and a pair of steals. Over his four-year career, Downer tallied 937 points, 585 rebounds, 99 steals, and 42 blocked shots.

After shooting 38.3 percent from the field this season, Downer ends his career with a solid 39.2 field goal shooting percentage.

Rounding out the leading scorers for Roberts Wesleyan was sophomore Tyrel Dixon. The forward added 13 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Southern Nazarene, the top seed in the tournament, shot 59.6 percent from the field. They were led by Quan Conner's 22 points as C.J. Smith added 20 points for the Crimson Storm.

The loss puts Roberts Wesleyan at 13-16 overall, a five-win improvement over last season.
