ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 30, 2014) – The Men's Tennis team split a pair of East Coast Conference matches over the weekend.
Roberts Wesleyan picked up an 8-1 win over Dowling College on Saturday before falling to No. 19 New York Institute of Technology by the same score on Sunday.
Against the Dowling,
Charles Farres and
Sam Thorold overcame a 2-5 deficit at first double and rallied to defeat David Lembke and Logan Schiff, 8-6. The win ran their first doubles win streak to 12 games.
Julio Toledo and
Beka Buchukuri won 8-2 at second doubles while Rob Beer and
Emanuel Rauchle finished the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win at third doubles
In singles action, Dowling's David Lembke defeated Buchukuri 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. However, the Redhawks then won the final five points in straight sets without losing a game.Â
In the loss to NYIT, the Redhawks scored their lone point when Farres defeated Julio Pulido 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 at second singles. Earlier, Farres and Thorold had their 12 game win streak at first doubles broken in an 8-1 loss to Pulido and Matij Selecky.
The Redhawks received strong performances from Rauchle and Beer at third doubles, as well as Rauchle and Thorold in singles action. Thorold lost in three sets to pre-season East Coast Conference Player of the Year selection, Nico Auruccio at third singles.Â
"This was a high level tennis match and playing at this caliber will get us ready for our next two opponents Chestnut Hill College and the District of Columbia who are currently ranked third and fourth in the East Region," said coach

Roberts Wesleyan, who are now 9-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play will now travel to Philadelphia on Thursday to play Chestnut Hill College and return home for a Saturday conference match against the University of the District of Columbia.
