Men's Tennis Win at Houghton, 9-0

HOUGHTON, N.Y. (March 8, 2014) – The Men's Tennis team defeated Houghton College, 9-0, in the inaugural meeting of the two programs this afternoon

"Coach Ellis has done a great job building this first year program," said coach Tom Linhert. "His players play hard, are competitive, fair and gentlemen.  I look forward to playing them as the program progresses."

The highlight of the match was Julio Toledo's wins at singles and doubles. The senior defeated freshman Dan Hammers at fourth singles 6-1, 6-0.  Earlier in the match, Toledo teamed up with classmate Beka Buchukuri to defeat Hammers and sophomore Chase Rangel, 8-0 at second doubles.

The two wins gave Toledo 100 career wins in his four years at Roberts Wesleyan. He becomes just the fourth member of the Redhawks' Tennis "Century Club", joining current Athletic Director Mike Faro, Enrique Flores, and recent graduate German Michaylyszyn.

The win puts the Redhawks at 5-3 overall as resume play on Tuesday when they travel to Erie, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst University.
