ERIE, Pa. (April 22, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan fell to No. 4 Mercyhurst University, 13-3, in non-conference action this afternoon.
The visiting Redhawks found themselves in a quick hole as Mercyhurst jumped out to an early 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Things would get worse in the second quarter as the Lakers went into halftime with a 9-1 lead.
In the second half, Roberts Wesleyan was able to slow the Lakers down, holding them the just four goals in the final 30 minutes of the game.
The three goals for Roberts Wesleyan came from
Nick Wolak,
Mike Hubert, and
Craig Petit.
In goal,
Steve Keefer made his first start of the year, making seven saves for the Redhawks.
The loss is the seventh of the season that has come against teams ranked in the USILA Coaches Poll. Overall, the Redhawks slip to 6-8 with one game remaining on the schedule.
Roberts Wesleyan will host Chestnut Hill College this Saturday in the season finale as part of Senior Day festivities. Game-time is slated for 2:15, which is immediately after a Women's Lacrosse game at noon.
