Men's Lacrosse Downed by No.4 Tampa

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 3, 2014) – After a competitive first half, the Men's Lacrosse team fell 18-6 to the University of Tampa, the fourth-ranked team in the nation, in non-conference action this afternoon.

After trailing 5-2 at the end of the first quarter, the Redhawks used goals from Matt Benedict and Dom Cianfarano to pull with one with just five minutes left in the first half. However, the visiting Spartans scored twice in the final minutes of the half to go into the break with a 7-4 lead.

Things would then get out of hand in early in the third quarter as Tampa reeled off three goals the first two minutes to take a commanding six-goal lead.

In all, the Spartans scored eight consecutive goals going back to the second quarter before Benedict stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 4:30 mark in the third quarter.

Both Benedict and Cianfarano led Roberts Wesleyan with two goals apiece while Nick Wolak and Craig Petit each added one goal.

For Tampa, Mike Morris netted four goals and an assists as Conor Whipple posted two goals and six assists.

Goalkeeper Matt Hamilton was credited with 16 saves after facing a season-high 55 shots.

The loss puts Roberts Wesleyan at 6-2 overall as they resume East Coast Conference play.

On Saturday, the team will travel to take on No.11 New York Institute of Technology at 12:30pm before taking on No.13 Molloy College on Monday.
