Men's Tennis Soundly Defeats Dist. of Columbia, 7-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 5, 2014) - Julio Toledo, Robert Beer, and Emanuel Rauchle were all double winners as the Men's Tennis team defeated the University of the District of Columbia, 7-2, in an East Coast Conference showdown.
  
Beer and Rauchle opened the scoring with an 8-3 win over Drew Stewart and Carlos Quiroga at third doubles. This was followed by a win at second doubles by Toledo and Beka Buchukuri, which was a 9-7 decision over Simon Andersson and Simon Jackermaier.  
 
The Firebirds managed to win at first doubles with a 9-7 result to close the gap to 2-1.
 
In singles action, Rauchle won 6-0, 6-1 at sixth singles over Stewart. However, District of Columbia countered with a 6-0, 6-1 win by Miguel Uzcategui over Buchukuri.  
 
Rober Beer won 6-4, 6-3 over Carlos Quiroga at fifth singles and Charlie Farres secured the team victory with a win over Ike Kiro at second singles.  
 
Toledo and Sam Thorold rounded out the scoring with straight set wins at 4th and 3rd singles.  
 
"This was a big win for us in terms of the conference and East Region rankings," said head coach Tom Linhart. "I was very pleased with how we competed." 
 
Roberts Wesleyan currently stands at 10-5 overall and 2-1 in ECC play as they will now travel to New York City for matches on Friday and Saturday against ECC rivals St. Thomas Aquians College and the sixth-ranked Queens College.
