Men's Tennis Split Two Matches at NCCAA National Championships

MOBILE, Ala. (May 6, 2014) – The Men's Tennis team earned a two-match split on the first day of pool play at the NCCAA National Championships today.

After falling 5-1 to Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University, the Redhawks earned a 5-2 win over Point (Ga.) University in the second match of the day.

In the loss to the Cougars, who are ranked No. 11 in the NCAA Division II, the lone win came at second doubles where Beka Buchukuri and Julio Toledo downed Frederik Wilkens and Tomas Aranguiz in a hard-fought 8-6 match.

Against Point, Roberts Wesleyan saw Charles Farres pick up a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 victory over Ben Markowski at second singles. Sam Thorold was also victorious at third singles by winning 6-0, 6-0 against Zach Sheeler.

With the split, Roberts Wesleyan will need to win their final pool play match tomorrow morning to advance to the semifinals on Thursday. The Redhawks will face Mississippi College at 9am, which will mark the first meeting between the two programs.
