Rochester, N.Y. (September 13, 2014) – The women's soccer team fell to No. 5 Saint Rose this afternoon.
The Redhawks held off Saint Rose for the beginning of the first half and avoided an early deficit with a no goal call by the referees early on. However, the Golden Knights' Carmelina Puopolo put Saint Rose on the board in the 31st minute with a 25-yard blast that bounced in just inside the left post. Roberts Wesleyan struggled to get an offense going, managing just three shots throughout the match.
The Redhawks had some chances off their four corner kicks as well as a through ball for
Orla Martin early in the first half. They also lost an integral player,
Bella Mitrevski, when she had to come off the field after a bad tackle.
Roberts Wesleyan started the second half strong, as goalie
Marissa Sell kept her team in the game with a remarkable save off of a Saint Rose free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Sell recorded eight saves for the Redhawks.
Saint Rose put out their final goal in the 78
th minute as Puopolo strung a ball to Emily Benjamin who drew out Sell and finished for the goal.
The loss puts the Redhawks at 2-1-0. They are home again this Tuesday September 16
th to play No 11 Gannon at 5pm.
