Volleyball Falls Twice at Saint Rose Tri-Match

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sep. 13) – Roberts Wesleyan dropped a pair of matches at a tri-match, hosted by Saint Rose this afternoon.

The Redhawks nearly pulled a major upset in their first match of the day as they fell to Pitt-Johnstown in five sets (25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 20-25, 8-15). The Mountain Cats, who are the defending PSAC tournament champions, needed to win the final two sets to stop Roberts Wesleyan.

In that match, senior Kendall Havener posted 16 kills off of 29 attempts to finish with an impressive .483 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also recorded one solo block while assisting on three more. As a team, the Redhawks hit .235 compared to Pitt-Johsntown's .220 hitting percentage.

Olivia Zureck did her part as she notched a match-high 17 digs for the Redhawks.

The second match for the Redhawks was not as close, seeing the hosts have their way in a three set win (18-25, 22-25, 20-25).

In the loss, Havener again led the team in kills with nine off of 20 attempts to finish with a .400 hitting percentage.

Over the two matches, freshman outside hitter Courtney Taylor finished right behind Havener in kills with 13 and 7 kills respectively.

On the year, Havener is second on the team with 76 kills, averaging 2.53 kills per set. She is also second with her .286 hitting percentage.

The loss puts Roberts Wesleyan at 4-3 as they prepare for their East Coast Conference opener this Tuesday when they host rivals, Daemen, at 7pm. The match is a WHITEOUT as the team will wear their white uniforms while fans are also encouraged to wear white.
