Rochester, N.Y. (September 16, 2014) – The Women's Soccer team took down No. 21 Gannon University 1-0 this afternoon in non conference play.
The Redhawks only took a few chances in the first half, but it was Gannon who took most of the shots; taking three to Roberts Wesleyan's one in the first half. Gannon totaled 11 shots while the Redhawks only totaled four.
It took some aggressive defending by goalie
Marissa Sell who nabbed three of the nine corner kicks taken by Gannon. Sell recorded a total of six saves.
Roberts Wesleyan's goal came in the 52
nd minute. Freshman
Taylor Fletcher drew the goalie out on the right side of the box. In a scrum to get the ball away from the diving goalie, Fletcher played a pass into classmate
Laura Herman who made the shot on the open goal.
The Redhawks would have another opportunity to score on a penalty kick just minutes later, but Gannon goalie Shannon Differ was able to tip the ball away.
The win gives Roberts Wesleyan a record of 3-1-0.
The Redhawks are on the road to face another ranked competitor, #11 Bridgeport, this coming Friday September 19
th at 6pm. This will be their first conference match up.
