Rochester, N.Y. (January 10, 2015) - The women's basketball had a successful weekend at home beating ECC rivals University of Bridgeport last night and Dowling College this afternoon. The final score was 82-54.
Roberts Wesleyan got on the board first with a jumper by
Carneisha Henry. Henry would go on to score 6 points and 6 rebounds by the end of the game. Despite the early lead, the Redhawks faced a tough first half, with Dowling holding a slight lead for a big part of the half. The Redhawks were able to come out ahead and ended the first half 41-35.
The Redhawks took off in the second half keeping a double digit lead throughout the rest of the game. Their largest lead came in the final three minutes of play when a jumper by
Ashley Smith put the Redhawks up by 31.
Freshman
Lucy Covley again scored a game high 20 points and was 6-13 from beyond the arc. Classmate
Brooke Fields also posted an impressive 18 points for the Redhawks.
Rebounding was important for Roberts Wesleyan as they were able to score 22 points off second chances compared to Dowling's three.
Marissa Sell again lead in rebounds posting 19 for game. She now holds three of the top five spots in program history for rebounds in a game. Sell also leads the ECC in rebounds per game. Against Dowling Sell also had nine points.
As a team the Redhawks shot 42.3% from the field, 43.8 for threes and 50% on the line.
The win gives Roberts Wesleyan a record of 8-3 and 3-2 in the ECC.
The Redhawks are on the road to face ECC rivals Mercy College Friday January 16 at 5:30pm.
