Women's Basketball Down Queens

The Redhawks strong start allows them to come out on top

FLUSHING, N.Y. (January 30, 2015) - Roberts Wesleyan (13-4, 8-3 ECC) pushes past Queens College (14-4, 9-2 ECC) in tonight's match with a final score of 72-56. This win gives the Redhawks a three-game win streak. The Redhawks hope to continue on this win streak as they take on Molloy College tomorrow.

A Strong Start by the Redhawks
After a missed shot by the Knights, the Redhawks used that to their advantage to be the first to put points on the board. Lucy Covley hit a three giving the Redhawks a 3-0 lead. The Freshmen would go on and score 15 points by the end of the game. This was the start to strong first half as Roberts Wesleyan went on a 12-2 point run in the first 4:49 of the game. The Redhawks shot 50 percent from the field to give them a 36-28 lead going into half time.

Queens Tries to Fight Back
The Redhawks are forced to try and hang onto the lead and the Knights try and fight back. The Knights were first to score points coming out in the second half. As the Knights continue to hit shots, they slowly start to close the gap. The Redhawks were only up by four before they finally put points up. The Redhawks continue to add points keeping the lead throughout the second half, coming out with the win.

Keeping Control of the Game
The Redhawks were able to control the game tonight. With a good, strong defense, the Redhawks kept the Knights shooting in control. MacKenzie Rowland and Kristen Korzevinski were the only two players from the Knights to score in the double digits. This allowed the Redhawks to keep the lead from the beginning of the game. The Redhawks had a total of four blocks and eight steals that added to their strong defense.
