BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer fell short of an upset this afternoon against No. 10 LIU Post, losing on the road, 4-3.
After trailing 3-1 at halftime,
Malcolm Shaw and
Logan Wood scored goals in the 47
th and 52
nd minutes respectively to even the score. However, LIU Post managed to earn the game-winner in the 74
th minute to pick up the conference win.
Turning PointDespite playing a man down due to a red card, the Pioneers' Matias Ruiz found the back of the net off of a through ball from Per Forgaard to give LIU Post the 4-3 lead with 16 minutes remaining in the game.
Individual Leaders-
Sam Moody had one of his most productive games for Roberts Wesleyan as he scored in the 16
th minute before assisting on the other two goals.
- Wood was busy throughout the game, evidenced by his team-high four shots which included his tying goal in the 52
nd minute.
- Goalkeeper
Michael Scavone kept Roberts Wesleyan in the game with his five saves.
Inside the Box Score- Both teams placed nine shots on goal.
- Roberts Wesleyan held a decisive advantage in corner kicks in the loss. The visitors took five corner kick opportunities to LIU Post's one corner kick.
News & Notes- The No. 10-ranked Pioneers was the highest ranked opponent for the Redhawks this season.
- Roberts Wesleyan is now five spots out of the fourth and final ECC tournament spot with their 2-4-1 conference mark. NYIT, who the Redhawks play on Sunday, sit in fourth place with a 4-2 conference record.
