Women's Soccer Downs LIU Post in ECC Semifinals, 3-2

Roberts Wesleyan needed extra time to come out on top in a thrilling ECC semifinal victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - For the second time this season, Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer played LIU Post to extra time, but this time found a favorable result with 3-2 overtime win in the ECC semifinal.

Junior midfielder Bella Mitrevski was the hero for the No. 2-seed Redhawks by scoring her 18th goal of the season in the 94th minute. Mitrevski found herself in space inside the 18-yard box, easily beating the Pioneers' goalkeeper off of a well-placed pass from Erica Lamb.

The win advances Roberts Wesleyan to the ECC championship game where they will face top-seed Bridgeport on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Turning Point
After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Roberts Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead with goals coming from Adrianna Russell in the 49th minute and Mitrevski in the 69th minute.

Individual Leaders
- Mitrevski scored a brace for Roberts Wesleyan on just three shots.
- Senior forward Brittany Houghton was busy the entire game with a total of six shots, placing two on frame.
- Freshman goalkeeper Mary Kate Eckert made four saves to earn her 10th win of the season.

For the Pioneers
- Julia Backman scored her ninth goal of the campaign in the 34th minutes to give the visitors the first half lead.
- The conference's points leader Susanne Vistnes notched her 19th goal in the 75th minute to tie the game at 2-2. She ended the game with five shots.

- Neither team was called offside.
- The Pioneers took seven corner kicks as Roberts Wesleyan took just one.

News & Notes
- The game marked the debut appearance for Roberts Wesleyan in the ECC championship tournament.
- Saturday's championship game will be the first any Roberts Wesleyan team will play in an East Coast Conference tournament final since becoming active NCAA members last year.
- Roberts Wesleyan also earned their first win against the Pioneers, who lead the all-time series, 4-1.

Up Next
Roberts Wesleyan visits Bridgeport on Saturday in the final at 3 p.m. In the regular season, the Redhawks played the top-seeds to a 1-1 draw at home on Oct. 30.
