Isaac Medeiros Leads Men's Basketball Past Mercy

The senior forward led the Redhawks with 15 points and 10 rebounds

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 20, 2015) – With a narrow 58-54 win at home, Roberts Wesleyan kept their playoff hopes alive this evening.

In a tight game throughout, the Redhawks managed to come out on top, earning the season sweep against Mercy.

Isaac Medeiros finished the game with a team-high 15 points for the Redhawks while picking up the double-double with 10 rebounds.

Slow Start to the Game
Both teams struggled to get into a rhythm over the first 10 minutes of the contest as Roberts Wesleyan led 12-11 at the 10:15 mark. Up to that point, only six of those 12 points came from the field.

As the first half rolled on, neither team could pull away as the score was tied five times and the largest lead was just five in favor of the Redhawks on three separate occasions.

Things Get Rolling After Halftime
After heading into the locker room leading 26-25, Roberts Wesleyan used a 15-2 run over the first seven minutes of the second half to take control of the game. Over that span, Kevin Madiamba led the charge with six points while Isaac Medeiros and Marcus Gooding each added four points.
The Mavericks responded with a 15-5 run of their own, but would never take the lead again down the stretch as they struggled to shoot well from the field.

Grinding Out a Win
Despite shooting just 37.0 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from beyond the arc, the Redhawks dominated play under the basket with 28 points in the paint compared to Mercy's 16 points.

Roberts Wesleyan also held the advantage in second chance points (13 to 10) and bench points (11to 6).

The Redhawks also edged the visitors 15 to 10 in points off of turnovers.

Keeping Hope Alive
While the team isn't eliminated from the ECC tournament, the Redhawks will likely need to win all of their remaining games to have a shot at making the postseason.

As of this evening, Roberts Wesleyan sits in seventh place in the conference standings, two game behind NYIT, who are in the sixth and final playoff spot.
