ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 24, 2015) - Tonight the women's basketball team hosted their last home game of the season, taking on their rivals from Buffalo, NY. After falling to Daemen (10-13, 8-10 ECC) earlier this season, Roberts Wesleyan (19-5, 14-4 ECC) was able to come out on top tonight.Â
The Redhawks honored seven seniors, all who contributed to the team in various ways.Â
Redhawks Off to a Great StartFreshman guard,
Lucy Covley was the first to put points on the board for the Redhawks. Roberts Wesleyan continued to go on a 7-point run before the Wildcats scored. As the first half continued, Daemen tried to claw their way back to the top. Roberts Wesleyan continued to shoot strong going in halftime with a 36-31 lead.
A Rocky Second HalfComing out of the locker room,
Carneisha Henry was the first to score for the Redhawks. Daemen quickly responded with a 8-0 point run to put themselves ahead of the Redhawks. With 11 minutes left in the second half,
Carneisha Henry scored again to put the Redhawks ahead for the remainder of the game. Henry put a total of nine points up and grabbed 10 total rebounds. It was still a close battle until the end as the Redhawks did not have more than a five point lead.Â
Strong Contributors of Tonight's GameComing off the bench,
Necedah James led the Redhawks with 14 points. She went 2-3 from behind the arc and 3-4 from the field. She also added another three rebounds.
Brooke Fields put 10 up on the boards for the Redhawks. Senior,
Marissa Sell added nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Â
For the Wildcats, senior Shy Britton lead her team with 15 points. Sarah Saba added another 12.
The Redhawks will be on the road this weekend as they take on NYIT on Friday at 5pm.Â
