Women's Basketball Downs NYIT for 20th Win

Lucy Covley poured in a career-high 22 points in the win over the Bears

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (February 27, 2015) – Roberts Wesleyan picked up their 20th win of the season this evening as freshman Lucy Covley scored a career-high 22 points as they downed NYIT, 65-48.

The win is the Redhawks' six straight as they head to LIU Post on Sunday for the nationally televised regular season finale.

Roberts Wesleyan (20-5, 14-4 ECC) nearly led from start to finish, which was blemished by the Bears' Nina Vukosavljevic, who put the home team on the board first.
In the first half, the visitors put together a splendid defensive effort as they held NYIT (17-10, 12-7 ECC) to just 22.2 percent from the field, including an 0 for 9 stat line from beyond the arc.

Long range shooting was also tepid for the Redhawks in the first 20 minutes as they were just 2 of 12 from long range. Despite the low percentage, Roberts Wesleyan was hit 7 of 9 at the line as they headed into the locker room with a 33-21 lead.

In the second half, Covley and Necedah James came to life from three-point range to lift Roberts Wesleyan. The freshman duo combined for five three-pointers while classmate Brooke Fields added another as the Redhawks finished the second half shooting 40.0 percent beyond the arc.

Roberts Wesleyan led by as much as 19 midway through the second half when Covley drained a three.

As a team, the Redhawks dominate the offensive glass picking up 21 second chance points while holding NYIT to just three points.  They also out-rebounded the Bears 63 to 43.

Senior forward Carneisha Henry came off the bench to score four points, which gives her 500 career points.

The win gives Roberts Wesleyan the season sweep over the Bears, which included an 80-62 win at home back on January 23.

Sunday's game against the Pioneers will be nationally televised on CBS Sport Network and will also be simulcast throughout upstate New York on Time Warner Cable Sports. Channel listings and other details can be found here. Tip-off is slated for noon.
