Women's Basketball Faces Tough Loss

The Firebirds just slip by 68-62

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - (February 8, 2015) - Roberts Wesleyan (14-5, 9-4 ECC) suffered a tough loss this afternoon in the Voller Athletic Center. With a never ending battle for the lead, UDC (18-3, 11-2 ECC) came out on top.

The Redhawks Take the Lead

Roberts Wesleyan came out starting the game strong. Necedah James was the first to put points on the board. The freshman would add a total of eight points for the Redhawks. After a five point run in the first 1:05 of the game, the Firebirds began to fight back. However, the Redhawks were able to hang onto the lead for the majority of the first half. Going into halftime, the Redhawks led the Firebirds 34-31.

The Battle Begins

With 10 lead changes in the second half, the battle continued. As the time began to wind down, the Redhawks found themselves slowly falling behind. There was 3:51 left in the second half when Roberts Wesleyan was down by six, the biggest gap all game. Trying to claw their way back, the Redhawks were unable to finish with a win.

Samantha Courtney led the team with 21 points, also her season high. Marissa Sell was able to achieve another double double this afternoon with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Redhawks were able to go 88.5 percent from the freethrow line. To help the team achieve this percentage, Marissa Sell, Brooke Fields, Lucy Covley, and Lakiah Huff were perfect from the line.

UDC Picks up the Pace

After battling for the lead the majority of the game, the Firebirds were able to go on a 7-2 run with 1:30 left. This run was to key for the Firebirds as it allowed them to clinch the win.

Denikka Brent led the Firebirds with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Tairuba Baldwin-Kollore added another 18 points.
