BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. (March 1, 2015) – Despite a hard-fighting effort, Roberts Wesleyan narrowly fell to LIU Post, 65-64, in their season finale this afternoon.
After trailing by 13 points at the start of the second half, the Redhawks rallied late in the game when they led by one point as
Kevin Madiamba made a layup with 1:52 remaining, making it a 64-63 ball game.
Then with 22 seconds left,
Tyrel Dixon was unable to make his layup fall that would have extended the lead to three before PJ Torres got his to fall, putting the Pioneers up by one with seven seconds remaining.
As time expires,
Marcus Gooding was able to put up a desperation shot, but it wasn't meant to be as the Redhawks suffered the season-ending loss.
Junior guard
Mike Stone was a bright spot for Roberts Wesleyan as he went a perfect 5 of 5 from three-point range en route to scoring a season-high 20 points. With the perfect shooting from beyond the arc, Stone wraps up the season with a respectable 40.2 three-point field goal shooting percentage.
Stone also added five assists and as many rebounds to the final stats.
For Dixon, the junior swingman added four assists to go along with eight points, six rebounds, and a pair of steals.
Isaac Medeiors added 15 points in the game, going 7 of 17 from the field as
Marcus Gooding chipped in 10 points.
Roberts Wesleyan did have the advantage shooting-wise as they finished with a 44.4 field goal shooting percentage compared to the Pioneers' 37.04 percent, but were dominated under the basket. LIU Post nearly doubled-up on the Redhawks 42 to 22 in points in the paint.
