Rochester, N.Y. (March 14, 2015) - The women's lacrosse team defeated Molloy College this afternoon in their second conference game of the year. Last year the two teams matched up at the end of the season where the Redhawks were defeated. Roberts Wesleyan was out to even the score and were able to pull off the win in overtime.
The Redhawks started out the match in a quick deficit as Molloy's Cooper Sessleman scored three goals for the Lions in the first seven minutes of the game. After a time out for the Redhawks Roberts Wesleyan was able to get on the board with a goal by sophomore
Cassley Jackowski assisted by
Savannah Tucker. Jackowski ended with three goals and one assist for the match while Tucker would add one goal after assisting Jackowski. Roberts Wesleyan gained momentum throughout the first half. Lauren Dunn scored two of her three goals in the first half.
Ali Fox also scored three of her five goals to put the Redhawks up 7-5 to end the half.
In the second half the Lions worked to come back despite defensive efforts from the Redhawks. Goalie
Shannon Knapp made a total of 19 saves as well as notching four caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Meghan Taylor and
Savannah Tucker also had two caused turnovers each to add to the defensive effort. Molloy however, was able to come back in the second half, tying the game with less than two minutes to go to force the match into overtime.
Roberts Wesleyan came out with high energy in the first overtime period.
Ali Fox scored her fifth goal unassisted early in the period to give the Redhawks the edge going into the final over time. With less then ten seconds to go, Joanna Price scored her second goal of the match to seal in Roberts Wesleyan's victory. She was assisted by Jackowski.
The win gives the Redhawks a record of 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The next match up for Roberts Wesleyan is this Tuesday March 17th at home against St Michael's College. Action starts at 4pm.
