Women’s Lacrosse Takes Saint Michael’s

The Redhawks win edge their past two competitors by one point

Rochester, N.Y. (March 17, 2015) – The women's lacrosse team defeated St Michael's College 11-10 this afternoon in nonconference play.

The Purple Knights were able to get on the board first with in the first few minutes of the game. Loren Dunn, a junior for the Redhawks was able to score to tie up the match just minutes later. Dunn totaled four goals for the game and one assist as well as winning two draw controls. After Dunn's goal, Saint Michaels scored three successive goals in the span of two minutes putting them ahead 4-1. A timeout by the Redhawks sparked a five goal run for Roberts Wesleyan to go up 6-4 with five minutes left in the half.  Cassley Jackowski scored two of the five goals. By the end of the match Jackowski notched three goals and two ground balls for the Redhawks.  The Purple Knights managed to score two goals in the final minutes to tie the game at 6-6 for the half.  

Saint Michael's had a strong start to the second half going up by two quickly. The Redhawks answered by scoring three goals to go up 9-8 with ten minutes remaining in the game.  Amanda Cluck scored her first goal of the season in the run. She also had three ground balls for Roberts Wesleyan. 

In the final minutes Roberts Wesleyan and Saint Michael's battled back and forth.  Ali Fox scored off a free position shot to put the Redhawks up 10-9, but the Purple Knights answered quickly to tie the game with under-five to go.  Fox ended the match going 3-3 in free position shots, she also won three draw controls and totaled two caused turnovers. Ali Fox again scored off a free position shot to put the Redhawks up 11-10 with three minutes remaining.  Roberts Wesleyan was able to hold on to the lead to end the match on top.

Defensively Billie Jo Marr totaled three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Savannah Tucker and Meredith Smith each had two caused turnovers. Goalie Shannon Knapp had eight Saves, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The win puts Roberts Wesleyan at 4-3 overall.

The Redhawks have a quick turnaround as they play tomorrow March 18th on home turf at four against Tiffin University.
