BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 21, 2015) – Playing their third game of the week, Roberts Wesleyan mustered a late rally before falling at No. 8 LIU Post this afternoon, 6-4.
The loss is just the first in their last four games while holding their opponent to the fewest goals in a game this season. The previous low was in their second game of the season when the Redhawks held Saint Leo to eight goals in a 9-8 overtime win.
In this game, the Redhawks found themselves in a 5-0 hole four minutes into the second half when LIU Post's Emily Delaney scored her 15
th goal of the season.
After another four minutes, sophomore
Cassley Jackowski reeled off three unassisted goals for Roberts Wesleyan over the next seven minutes to make it a 5-3 game. The attacked now has 25 goals on the season, just four behind
Loren Dunn.
With 8:37 remaining, Jenna Pierro notched her third goal of the game, snuffing out any sort of continued rally by the visitors.
Ali Fox added the fourth goal for Roberts Wesleyan with 5:55 remaining off of an assist from Dunn.
In goal,
Shannon Knapp put together a solid game by recording nine saves to keep the Redhawks in the game down the stretch.
The game marked the first time Roberts Wesleyan played a team that was nationally ranked in addition to the game being their first conference road game of the season.
The loss puts the Redhawks at 5-4 overall and 1-2 in ECC action as they step out of conference play when they visit Lake Erie (Ohio) this Wednesday at 4 p.m.
