ALBANY, N.Y. (March 7, 2015) – With just 20 seconds remaining in the second overtime session, Saint Rose's Evan Helming scored to lift the Golden Knights past Roberts Wesleyan, 10-9.
Throughout the game, neither team could gather a sizable lead as Saint Rose had the largest lead of the game when it was just 2-0 early in the first quarter.
With 9:06 left in regulation,
Dom Cianfarano put Roberts Wesleyan up with his 16
th goal of the season, making it 9-8 game.
Just over a minute later, Ryan McFee got the equalizer to send the game into overtime where both teams were unable to score the game-winner until just 20 seconds left in the second session.
In all, Roberts Wesleyan finished the game leading in most statistical categories. The Redhawks outshot Saint Rose (39 to 37), had more shots on goal (25 to 19), more groundballs (34 to 33), andhad fewer turnovers (22 to 24).
The Redhawks also took advantage of their extra-man opportunities by scoring four times through eight opportunities.
Individually, Roberts Wesleyan were led by Cianfarano as well as
Matt Benedict and
Seth Miller who each scored twice. Both Benedict and Cianfarano also recorded a pair of assists.
The double-overtime game has the same score line as last year's meeting, except the Redhawks were able to come away with the victory at home.
The Redhawks will look to get back on track next Saturday when they host Dominican (N.Y.) in an East Coast Conference match-up at 3 p.m.
