Women's Lacrosse Drops to Bridgeport in Overtime, 10-12

Loren Dunn led the Redhawks with five goals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 7, 2015) – This afternoon, Roberts Wesleyan hosted their first conference match against Bridgeport (1-0, 1-0 ECC). After a tough battle that ended in overtime, Roberts Wesleyan (2-3, 0-1 ECC) was unable to secure the win.  

Loren Dunn came out and netted back to back within the first 10 minutes of the game, giving the Redhawks an early lead over Bridgeport. However, within the next three minutes the Purple Knights responded with a 3-0 run, taking over the lead.  As the first half continued, both teams battled back and forth to try and gain the lead. With one minute left in the first half, Loren Dunn scored again to give the Redhawks the lead before halftime.

Starting the second half, Bridgeport was the first score, tying it back up.  As the Redhawks found themselves down 7-9, they began to claw their way back as they went on a 3-0 run to give them a 10-9 lead over Bridgeport. Shealyn Scully responded with a goal for Bridgeport to tie up the game with 1:54 left to play. This goal sent the Redhawks into overtime.

It was a quick first overtime period as no one scored. Then within the first 30 seconds of the second overtime period, Emily Catalano scores off of a free position shot for Bridgeport.  After a quick draw control win, Bridgeport scored again with 1:52 left. The Redhawks were unable to respond and Bridgeport came out on top.
Loren Dunn led the Redhawks with five goals. This puts her at a total of 18 goals for the season.  Savannah Tucker added another two goals while Mackenzie Dude, Cassley Jackowski, and Ali Fox each added one.

In goal Shannon Knapp had six saves, three groundballs, and one caused turnover.

The Redhawks will play again at home Saturday, March 14 against Molloy College.
