St. Thomas Aquinas Rallies Past Women's Lacrosse

Roberts Wesleyan was unable to haold on to a two-goal lead at halftime against the Spartans

SPARKILL, N.Y. (April 3, 2015) – Despite holding a 5-3 lead at halftime, the Women's Lacrosse team fell on the road to St. Thomas Aquinas this afternoon, 14-10.

The home-standing Spartans used an eight-goal spurt to start the second half as the two teams swapped positions in the East Coast Conference standings. St. Thomas Aquinas now holds the fourth spot in the conference table as the Redhawks moved to fifth place.

Roberts Wesleyan started the game with a quick pair of goals as Savannah Tucker scored less than a minute in before Loren Dunn added another two minutes later.

With 12:04 left in the half, the Spartans' Kellie Kucinski tied the score at 3-3. The stalemate only last four minutes as Ali Fox put the visitors ahead on a free-position shot with 8:14 remaining before Cassley Jackowski added another with slightly less than three minutes to play in the half.

The second half flurry of goals for St. Thomas Aquinas made it an 11-5 advantage with less than 12 minutes to play.

However, Roberts Wesleyan managed to end the game on a high note as they outscored the Spartans 5 to 3 over the final ten minutes of the game.

Jackowski, Fox, and Tucker all scored twice for Roberts Wesleyan while Dunn led the way with three goals. Both Jackowski and Fox each added an assist in the loss.

Shannon Knapp was kept busy as she recorded six saves after facing 20 shots.

Roberts Wesleyan slips to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in conference action as they are off until next Saturday when they host Queens at 3 p.m.
