Late Heroics Propel Men's Soccer Past St. Thomas Aquinas

The Redhawks scored twice in the final minutes to remain undefeated in conference play

SPARKILL, N.Y. – Late game heroics has been an ally for the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team as of late as they edged St. Thomas Aquinas in thrilling fashion this afternoon.

After trailing 1-0, the Redhawks equalized in the 85th minute when Scott Carson chipped a shot over the Spartans' keeper. Then, in the 89th minute, Malcolm Shaw converted a penalty kick to seal the win.

Last weekend, Roberts Wesleyan needed a pair of goals late in the game at District of Columbia as the Redhawks improve to 2-0 in the East Coast Conference.

Turning Point
In the final minute of regulation, Shaw converted the penalty kick after the St. Thomas Aquinas goalkeeper tripped up a player in the box.

Individual Leaders
- Shaw paced the Redhawks with the goal while also assisting on Carson's first goal of the season.
- John Ciavaglia was credited with eight saves in the win.

Inside the Box Score
- Roberts Wesleyan led in corner kicks, having six opportunities to the Spartans four corners.
- The Redhawks were again outshot, placing six of their 10 shots on goal.

- For the first time since joining the ECC, Roberts Wesleyan is 2-0 to start the conference portion of their schedule.
