LAKEWOOD N.J. (Sept. 6, 2015) – Roberts Wesleyan opened their season at the Georgian Court Invite playing a collection of teams including: Caldwell University, Georgian Court University, Le Moyne College, and Stonehill College.
In their opening game with Caldwell University, the Redhawks were unable to get any offense going scoring only 13 kills total in the match up. Kate Stegar led the way with 4 kills and 2 blocks. The Cougars dropped the Redhawks 25-10, 25-13, and 25-10 for the 3-0 win.
Coming into their final game of the weekend with a 0-3 record, the Redhawks came at the Stonehill Seahawks with a vengeance but still falling short in 3 close sets, 25-21, 25-17, and 26-24. Roberts Wesleyan had a strong final push in the third set but was still swept 3 sets to 0.
In total, Kate Stegar led the weekend with 22 kills, 11 digs, 3 blocks, 3 assists, and 1 ace followed closely behind by
Courtney Taylor with 21 kills, 11 digs and 2 blocks. Sophomore setter
Elisabeth Rivera tallied 56 assists and 3 service aces. On the defense and serving side,
Rebekah Sanchez led all players with 37 digs and 5 aces. Freshman
Riley Moll led all by acquiring 8 blocks on the weekend as well.
The Redhawks seek to get their first win of the season at home this weekend on Friday, September 11
th at 7PM against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Roberts Wesleyan Quad match. Other teams Roberts will be playing that weekend are The College at Saint Rose and Millersville University.
