Samantha Courtney scored 19 points while grabbing a career-high 20 rebounds as Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball edged Daemen at home, 73-69.
With the scored tied 62-62 with 5:16 remaining, the Redhawks managed to hang on down the stretch to earn the win against their Thruway rivals.
In a game that saw the scored tied eight times, Roberts Wesleyan was able to use their strong free-throw shooting to make the difference. As a team, the Redhawks went 22 of 28 to finishin with a 78.6 free-throw shooting percentage, which was slightly better than Daemen's 12 of 16 (75.0 percent) effort.
Brooke Fields led the team in scoring with 22 points as she went 4 of 4 from the line and 9 of 19 from the field while adding three assists and two steals.
Fellow guard
Necedah James added 13 points, seven of which came from the charity stripe.
The win is the Redhawks' fifth straight as they improve to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in conference action. The team is back in action this Friday at NYIT in a battle for second place in the ECC standings.
