Late Rally Falls Short for Women's Basketball at NYIT

The Redhawks lost their first road game of the season to NYIT Friday evening, 67-64

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball fell on the road to the NYIT Bears Friday evening in a close game between two of the top teams in the East Coast Conference.

The visiting Redhawks were led by sophomore guard Brooke Fields, who scored a game-high 17 points.

How It Happened
Roberts Wesleyan trailed by as much as 11 points with just 3:12 left in the game before cutting it to a one-point game with 15 seconds remaining with a good free-throw from Samantha Courtney.

The Redhawks had one last chance to take the lead with five seconds on the clock, but a layup from Fields wouldn't fall.

Key Stat
Free-throw shooting was the difference as Roberts Wesleyan hit just 8 of 15 from the line while the Bears were slightly better at 12 of 18.

Inside the Numbers
- Both teams struggled to hit the long ball as NYIT shot a paltry 22.7 percent from beyond the arc while the Redhawks finished the game shooting 28.6 percent.
- Roberts Wesleyan dominated underneath the basket, evidenced by 38 of their 64 points coming from within the paint. NYIT had just 28 points from around the rim.
