Women's Basketball Powers Past St. Thomas Aquinas, 60-49

The Redhawks used strong free-throw shooting to win their fourth-straight game

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior forward Samantha Courtney powered Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball to a 60-49 win against St. Thomas Aquinas Saturday afternoon, posting a game-high 19 points and five blocked shots.

Courtney now needs just 49 points to reach 1,000 points for her career. She finished the game 8 of 13 from the field and was a perfect 3 of 3 from the line.

The Redhawks led for most of the game and led by as much as 13 points early in the fourth quarter.

Despite a pressuring defense by the Spartans, Roberts Wesleyan scored 30 of their points in the paint while going just 2 of 8 from long range.

Brooke Fields chipped in 16 points, earning half of that from the free-throw line by going a perfect 8 of 8. As a team, the Redhawks shot 94.7 percent from the charity stripe.

Taylor Byone added 10 points and a game-high four steals for the Redhawks, who have won four-straight.

Roberts Wesleyan improved to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the ECC as they host Daemen on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
