Men's Soccer Downed 4-1 at Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team lost against the Bridgeport Purple Knights 1-4 on Friday evening.

The Redhawks were on their heels early in the first half as the Purple Knights tested Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper John Ciavaglia early, forcing him to make a save just 13 second into the game. Ciavaglia made another stop in the 5th minute and received some help from the crossbar in the 9th minute. But in the 11th minute Bridgeport's Femi Coker opened the game's scoring off a through ball to the middle of the box from Nikolai Vadseth.

The Purple Knights added their second goal of the game in the 19th minute to go up 2-0. Vadseth scored off a long feed from Coker.

Ten minutes later Roberts Wesleyan got on the board when senior forward Malcom Shaw scored for the Redhawks off of a free kick just outside of the box. The score would stay at 2-1 to head into the halftime break.

The Purple Knights started the second half with a goal just over two minutes in extending the lead to 3-1. Roberts responded on offense with a header by Taiwo Aderounmu but the shot caught the post. Bridgeport put the nail in the coffin in the 73rd minute when they went up 4-1 after scoring on an awarded penalty kick.
Ciavaglia made seven saves in the game and Shaw added eight shots with two on goal for the offense.

The Redhawks head into the final two games of the season and will play at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on October, 26 before returning home for the season finale on Saturday against the University of the District of Columbia.
