Johnstown, Pa. – A hat trick by senior forward
Malcolm Shaw led the Roberts Wesleyan men' s soccer team to a victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Wednesday evening, 5-2. Junior midfielder
Sam Moody added two goals including the game winner in the 44
th minute for Roberts' final away game of the season.
Shaw opened the scoring in the 8
th minute off a cross into the box by
Scott Carson giving the Redhawks the early 1-0 lead. Pittsburgh-Johnstown struck back in the 20
th minute to tie the score at one off a penalty kick by Colin Michalski.
The Redhawks again grabbed the lead less than three minutes later when Moody connected on a header off a free kick from midfield taken by
Logan Wood. But the lead wouldn't stand as the Mountain Cats found the back of the net again in the 28
th minute to knot things up at 2-2.
Moody wasn't finished scoring in the first half as he got on the receiving end of an
Elijah Jarvis cross in the 44
th minute and headed in into the back of the net to score what would be the game winner.
In the second half Shaw scored the only two goals in the 68
th minute and 79
th minute to give the Redhawks a 5-2 lead and ensure the win.
Roberts starting goalkeeper
John Ciavaglia made seven saves in net.
The Redhawks outshot the Mountain Cats 21-16 and had seven corner kick opportunities.
Roberts Wesleyan (4-10-1) will close out the regular season at home on Saturday with a matchup against the University of the District of Columbia at 1 p.m.
