Men's Soccer Down Daemen 4-1

Amherst, N.Y. – A pair of goals in each half gave the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team a 4-1 win over Daemen on Wednesday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.

Senior midfielder Malcolm Shaw scored two goals in the game with the first coming in the 39th minute to put the Redhawks up 1-0. The goal was assisted on by Logan Wood off of a corner kick headed in by Shaw.

Less than one minute later junior midfielder John Stewart hit a one-time shot from a Shaw high-looping cross that beat the keeper to the far post to put the Redhawks up 2-0.

Roberts Wesleyan was awarded two more corner kicks that gave them the opportunity to extend the lead further in the first half but the score would remain 2-0 at the half.

In the second half freshman Terrell Spencer found the back of the net for his first career collegiate goal. The score came in the 55th minute off a feed from Shaw.

The Redhawks surrendered their only goal of the game in the 58th minute when a shot by Connor Essenburg from 25 yards out deflected off a Roberts Wesleyan player and ended up in the back of the net.

Shaw added a late goal in the 90th minute for his eighth on the season to put the Redhawks up 4-1.

The Redhawks had only nine total shots in the game but five of those were on frame. Daemen got off 17 shots with only four on the net. Starting goalkeeper John Ciavaglia made three saves in the net.

Roberts Wesleyan (3-7-1, 2-3 ECC) is on a two game win streak and will host LIU Post on Friday, October 14th at 7:30 p.m.
