Amherst, N.Y. – In day two of the ECC-CACC Challenge presented by WNY Knee & Orthopedic Surgery PC the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team saw a hard fought game slip away in overtime losing to Caldwell University 85-80.
Junior
Malik Dare who was selected to the All-Tournament Team was one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Redhawks. Sophomore guard
Quinn Carey also scored 16 points on the day going 4-of-10 from three point range and 6-of-13 from the field.
Midway through the first half Roberts Wesleyan found themselves down 18-22, but a 14-3 run with just under seven minutes to play in the half gave the Redhawks the momentum as they took a seven point lead, 32-25. The Cougars kept the game in check and the two teams went into the intermission with the Redhawks clinging to a four point lead.
Early into the second half Caldwell knotted the score at 40 off back-to-back three pointers from Zay Jennings and Vaugh Covington. Roberts was able to capture a six point lead with just under six minutes remaining to hold the largest lead of the half.

Tristan Brown hit a layup to put the Redhawks up three, 73-70. Caldwell hit two free throws to cut the lead to one point and then a
Manny Joseph free throw created a two point lead for Roberts Wesleyan. With three seconds on the clock
Zack Panebianco was called for a foul that sent Convington to the line who hit both his free throws to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime period the Redhawks fell behind early after two three pointers by the Cougars. A layup by Dare followed by one made free throw from Joseph and a three pointer from Quinn tied the score at 80. But with one minute left in overtime a three pointer by Covington was the dagger.
Roberts Wesleyan falls to 0-2 on the season and prepares for the first East Coast Conference matchup of the year on Wednesday when they take on Queens College in Flushing, N.Y.
