Sparkill, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team got off to a slow start on Wednesday evening leading to a 57-72 loss against East Coast Conference opponent Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
The first quarter set the tone as the Redhawks fell behind 7-0 just two minutes into the game. The first period ended with St. Thomas Aquinas holding a 21-9 lead. The usual spot on shooting from deep range fell flat for Roberts as the team went just 1-for-10 from three point range in the first half and 8-of-29 (27.6%) from the field.
Roberts Wesleyan was able to narrow the lead to seven points before the end of the first half with the score line reading 32-25 in favor of the Spartans, but the shooting woes carried over into the second half for the Redhawks as they went just 8-of-27 (29.6%) from the field.
Junior guard
Brooke Fields led all scorers in the contest with 17 points and
Taylor Bynoe pulled down 14 rebounds for the Redhawks. Samantha Burden was the driving force for the St. Thomas Aquinas win as the senior guard had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Roberts Wesleyan (5-4, 0-2 ECC) will travel to face the University of the District of Columbia next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
