Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Redhawks Soar Over District of Columbia

Washington, D.C. – Freshman Emily Miller scored the second highest game point total of her young college career with 26 points to help the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team defeat the University of the District of Columbia, 75-61.

Miller was efficient during her time on the court shooting 11-of-16 from the field and 2-of-2 from three point range. The 6-foot forward also brought in eight rebounds, tallied four blocks, a steal and added one assist on the night. 16 of her 26 points came in the second half alone.

The Redhawks struggled to shoot the ball in the first half despite holding a 36-27 lead at the break. Roberts took over half their shots from three point range connecting on just 4-of-22 (18.2%). But the team took care of the ball with only three first half turnovers and holding the Firebirds to 9-of-27 shooting from the field.

In the second half, the Redhawks defense continued its excellent play with UDC only hitting 9-of-32 (28.1%) from the field. Roberts Wesleyan shot over 50 percent in the second half to keep the lead until the final whistle.

Roberts Wesleyan (6-4, 1-2 ECC) only saw the lead slip away once in the contest when UDC took a 17-16 lead in the second quarter. But the team didn't look back from there as they extended their lead to as much as 25 late in the third quarter.

Roberts dominated the play down low as the team outscored the Firebirds 32-14 in points in the paint.

Lucy Covley had one of the best all-around games of the season posting a double-double on the night with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Roberts Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Molloy College for their first true home game of the season. The Lions currently stand at 7-2 on the season and 1-1 in East Coast Conference play.
