Men’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Chestnut Hill

Rochester, N.Y. – It was a heartbreaking loss for the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team as Chestnut Hill snuck away with an 82-80 win in the Voller Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

With just 15 seconds remaining Roberts sophomore guard Quinn Carey sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 80, but the Griffins had the last say when Demetrius Isaac dribbled down the court and created just enough space from Zack Panebianco to pull up from 15-feet and hit the game-winner with three seconds remaining. Panebianco's last second heave from midcourt bounced high off the top of the backboard and out.

Carey had 23 points in the game, hitting 6-of-14 from deep range while Panebianco added 16 points and three assists. Junior Malik Dare pulled down seven rebounds to go along with his 15 points.

The Redhawks found themselves behind by nine late in the first half, but a buzzer beating three-pointer by Panebianco brought the score to 43-37 at the intermission and gave Roberts Wesleyan the momentum heading into the second half.

In a tension-filled second half the Redhawks fell behind by 12 points with 10:47 left in the game, but the three-point shooting touch of Carey helped the red and black stay in the fight. At the six minute mark Carey's layup made the score 66-60. After two successful Roberts's free throws the 6-foot-3 guard hit a triple to tighten the score to 68-65. Carey then hit another triple with 3:49 on the clock to make the score 70-69.

While shooting 26-of-60 (43.3%) from the field the Redhawks continued to struggle at the free throw line going just 20-of-33 (60.6%) in the game.

Roberts Wesleyan (0-7)drops its seventh game of the season but looks to get on track when they travel to take on the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
