Albany, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team couldn't hold on to a first half lead as two back-to-back second half goals proved costly in a 2-1 loss against Saint Rose.
A two minute span in the second half saw the Saint Rose Golden Knights capitalize on their offensive chances, scoring two goals to take the lead 2-1 over Roberts Wesleyan. Ryan Rooney scored in the 54
th minute followed by a goal in the 56
th minute by Carlos Menjivar.
The Redhawks opened the game's scoring in the 36
th minute when junior midfielder,
John Stewart headed a ball past the keeper from a set piece 35 yards out. It was Stewart's first goal of the season.
Roberts Wesleyan (1-3) had opportunities to build on their first half lead but couldn't find the back of the net again. "We left too many on the table," head coach
Scott Reber said. "We had missed opportunities first half and they certainly came back to haunt us."
The Redhawks were outshot 18-15 by the Golden Knights. Starting goalkeeper
John Ciavaglia made six saves on the night.
The men's soccer team will host Le Moyne College on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before getting into conference play on Friday.
