Box Score Painesville, Ohio - The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team lost in their opening game at Lake Erie, 2-0 on Thursday evening.
Lake Erie came out of the gates with an attacking offense putting pressure on the Redhawk's defense and creating several corner kick opportunities early on. With ten minutes left in the first half Lake Erie junior defender, Ben Phillips capitalized on one of those corner kicks heading it past goalkeeper
Ben Hastings, putting the Storm up 1-0.
After making halftime defensive adjustments the Redhawks came out in the second half able to slow down the charging Storm attack. That led for more offensive chances for Roberts Wesleyan as they outshot Lake Erie in the second half 8-6.
In the 72
nd minute Lake Erie scored another goal extending their lead to 2-0. The goal was scored by senior, Kenneth Kolke and assisted by Andrew Bucur.
Roberts Wesleyan nearly got one goal back after
Malcolm Shaw hit the crossbar off a free kick in the 86
th minute.
"The guys played well," head coach
Scott Reber said. "I saw a lot of good things, but we are looking to get back on track on Saturday."
The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team will be in action again this Saturday for their home opener against Chestnut Hill College. The game begins at 4:30 p.m. at RWC Stadium.
