Roberts Wesleyan senior midfielder,
Malcolm Shaw scored two goals to lead the Redhawks to a 2-1 victory over Chestnut Hill.
Shaw's goals delighted the crowd during the first home game of the season as the game winner came of a bicycle kick inside the six yard box in the 64
th minute. Junior defenseman,
Sam Moody assisted the goal after sending in the cross from the right hand corner. Moody also made the connection with Shaw's first goal off a cross from the right side of the field that Shaw headed into the lower left corner, catching the inside of the post.
Chestnut Hill (0-1-0) opened the scoring quickly in the game when Nils Fussen scored from a direct kick 20 yards out. The Redhawks responded defensively by slowing the Griffin's offense down to keep the score 1-0 at the half.
"We kind of got away from our game plan right from the get go," head coach
Scott Reber said. "At the end of the day we got the win which is good, but it showed us some things we need to work on."
Starting goalkeeper,
John Ciavaglia recorded three saves on the day and got the win in net.
Roberts Wesleyan (1-1-0) outshot Chestnut Hill 13-7 in the game.
The Redhawk's next game is slated for Wednesday at Lock Haven University at 4 p.m.
